About the Jury Member
Sobin Jo studied piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Elisabeth Dvorak-Weisshaar. Fascinated by the harpsichord, she continued her studies in harpsichord performance under Wolfgang Glüxam and went on to complete a master’s degree with a focus on basso continuo with Augusta Campagne. She further deepened her training in a postgraduate harpsichord program with Céline Frisch.
She received important artistic impulses through masterclasses with Catalina Vicens, Aline Zylberajch, Jesper Christensen, and Siegbert Rampe. At the International H.I.F. Biber Competition, she was awarded the Special Prize of the West German Broadcasting Corporation (WDR).
Concert appearances have taken her to festivals such as the International Handel Festival in Göttingen, Resonanzen at the Wiener Konzerthaus, and the Chuncheon International Early Music Festival. She performs both as a soloist and with ensembles including the Baroque Ensemble of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, ensemble freymut, and acanthus baroque, exploring a wide-ranging repertoire from celebrated masterpieces to rediscovered treasures of early music.
Alongside her concert activities, she works as a harpsichord répétiteur at the Bruckner Institute of the mdw and, since 2023, has been supporting Erich Traxler’s harpsichord class at the Institute for Early Music.
