About the Jury Member
Alexander von Heißen (*1995) won First Prize at the XXIII International Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2022 and Second Prize at the Musica Antiqua Harpsichord Competition in Bruges in 2018. From 2021 to 2024, he taught harpsichord and performance practice at the University of Music in Münster, as well as harpsichord and basso continuo at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK). Since 2024, he has been Professor of Harpsichord and Historical Keyboard Instruments at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig.
He has appeared at festivals including the MA Festival Bruges, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Halle Handel Festival, Thüringer Bachwochen, Rheingau Musik Festival, Rheinvokal, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Mozartfest Würzburg, and the eeemerging Festival in Ambronay, among others.
He completed his Konzertexamen in 2022 at the HfMDK Frankfurt in the class of Eva Maria Pollerus. He received important artistic inspiration from Jesper Christensen, Pierre Hantaï, Skip Sempé, and Christophe Rousset. In addition to the harpsichord, he is also dedicated to jazz piano, which he studied with Christoph Spendel – the two have also performed together as a duo.
