About the Jury Member
Martin Hroch studied piano and harpsichord at the P. J. Vejvanovský Conservatory in Kroměříž and at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where his teachers included Alena Vlasáková, Jan Jiraský, and Barbara Maria Willi. He specialized in the historical performance practice of Baroque music and took part in numerous masterclasses with renowned artists such as Jesper B. Christensen, Aline Zylberajch, Michael Spányi, and Augusta Campagne. He was awarded several scholarships by the Johannes Brahms Society in Baden-Baden, where he also contributed to a Japanese documentary about Brahms.
As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed with orchestras such as the Brno Philharmonic, Janáček Philharmonic, Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc, and Musica Florea, among others. He appears regularly on radio and in CD recordings. He teaches at the Janáček Academy, where he heads the Department of Organ and Historical Performance, and also serves as director of the P. Křížkovský Gymnasium in Brno. He completed postgraduate studies with Gordon Murray at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2024, he was appointed as a senior lecturer (docent) at JAMU.
